Volunteers

Volunteers are important and vital cogs in the Midnight Walk wheel!

The event would not be able to happen without them! Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, have fun and help the Hospice raise £6million each year! Last year we had 200 volunteers kindly giving up their time to help the Hospice which was amazing! If you are interested in volunteering there are different roles you can be involved in:

Route Marshal

  • This year we have 3 routes to choose from which include 7 miles, 13 miles and 30 miles to celebrate our 30th Anniversary. Our Marshals are situated at various points along the route and your role will be to cheer, direct and keep our ladies safe on their journey!  You may come across some issues that may be challenging but you will get a full briefing before the night. This is a great role as you are the first port of call for the ladies along the route and it’s a great way to have fun! Time shifts can vary as a route marshal starting from 8.00pm and finishing at 10am the next day!
Lead Walker
  • Each route will have a group of 5-10 walkers who will lead the ladies along the 7, 13 or 30 mile route. You need to be able to walk the routes fairly quickly and confidently as well directing and cheering your fellow walkers on. This is a great role to be involved in if you want to experience the atmosphere along a certain route as well as deal with any issues that may arise with the walkers.
Sweeper
  • Each route will have a group of 5-10 sweepers for each 7mile, 13mile and 30 mile route. Sweepers make sure that they stay behind the whole group of ladies ensuring the ladies are happy and there are no issues. We need walkers or cyclists for this role so get in touch if you are interested!
Massage
  • After the walk the ladies receive a well deserved massage. This is where your key skill comes in handy! We have a team of volunteer masseuses situated at Plymouth Argyle who help massage the ladies sore legs and backs! You must be a qualified masseuse and have your own massage table for this volunteer role.
Merchandise Seller
  • There will be merchandise stands situated at Argyle selling all of our wonderful Midnight Walk goodies!! We will need a few people to help sell these goodies, as well as Floating merchandise sellers around Plymouth Argyle who will make sure every single lady is draped head to toe in flashing and glowing accessories!
Volunteers are vital for the hospice to stay open. 2 out of every 5 hours worked for the Hospice are volunteered and people like yourselves help the Hospice save £1.5 million a year.

If you are interested in any of the above roles please email marina.leadbetter@stlukes-hospice.org.uk or ring the fundraising office 01752 492 626 for more details about volunteer roles. We will be holding a volunteers meeting a couple of weeks before the event where you will be able to ask questions, meet fellow volunteers and pick up all your equipment.
