In order to help the event run as smoothly as possible we would like you to read and take note of the following:-
Start point & Registration
The start point for the walk is Plymouth Argyle Football Club, Home Park. As you enter the car park at Home Park a car-parking attendant will direct you to suitable car parking spaces. This is a public car park and all vehicles are left at your own risk, so please ensure that you leave no valuables in your vehicle. Please be patient in being directed by the car-parking attendants. If at all possible, we recommend that you share lifts or get dropped off. There will be a drop off point at the far end of the car park.
Registration will open at 10:30pm. Warm up will commence at 11:45pm. Between 11:00 and 11:45pm there will be special entertainment to keep you amused!
Please ensure you cross the finish line at Home Park. We want you to enjoy this exciting event, but we also want to ensure that all our walkers are safe at all times and this will automatically de-register you.
Please arrive in good time.
Note that you are not expected to bring your form or any sponsorship money at this stage. This can be sent in after the event.
The deadline for your well deserved incentives is Friday 29th October 2010.
There will be staggered start times this year, which you choose to reflect your walking speed. Fast (15minute miles), starting at 11.50pm, Moderate (20minute miles) starting at 11.55pm and Slow (30 minute miles), starting at Midnight. You will need to indicate your speed on your registration form and go to the allocated area on the night, which will be signed posted at specific gates.
Route
You will receive the route in your first pack. Please stick to the route at all times. Do not divert at any time. Please bring the map along with you on the night.
Should you require any assistance throughout the walk, there will be St Luke’s marshals at regular intervals and they will be in pairs. All marshals will have the contact numbers of Lead Marshal, St John Ambulance and the St Luke’s Events Team.
Please ensure that you stop and get your refreshments at the midway registration point which is The Novotel Hotel, Marsh Mills for all walkers.
In any of the more residential areas of the route, please try and keep noise levels down. Remember, most people will be asleep at this time of the morning!
Refreshments
There will be complimentary refreshments available at the Midway registration points and at the finishing line. It is also recommended that you bring your own drink to take with you on the walk and drink at regular intervals.
At the finish you will receive your medal; goody bag and food voucher for a well deserved breakfast butty!
Clothing
Please wear sensible warm and waterproof clothes (we hope that it will be a warm summer’s night, but be prepared just in case). It is recommended to wear layers, which can be taken off easily.
There will be ‘glow sticks’ available to purchase at Home Park on the night for just £1 which will also help identify you.
Please ensure you wear good, supportive footwear and socks to help cushion the feet and prevent blisters. We cannot stress this enough, your footwear is very important.
Please also wear your Midnight Walk T-shirt. This will help identify you.
Along with your t-shirt you will be issued with your walk number. Please attach this onto the front of your t-shirt on the night. If you are walking in remembrance of a loved one, the Star on your number makes an ideal place to record their name, if you wish.
There will be a DONATION STATION at Home Park for you to take any unwanted clothing on the night that you would like to donate to St Lukes Hospice Shops. So why not have a clear out!
Walking
Remember the Midnight Walk is not a race and therefore no walkers are allowed to run or jog. You can power walk but no walker must pass the nominated lead walkers (identifiable in their green t-shirts).
There will be a physio available at the end of the walk should you need a massage.
Most of all enjoy the fun and take it in your own stride! Good Luck!
